Sometimes you see visual issues in your site, in some cases you can fix these issues easily with clearing CSS cache in SocialEngine and it might save you some money without hiring a developer to debug the issue. There are 3 ways to clear this CSS cache from SocialEngine cache pool and I’m going to demonstrate all 3 methods in this blog post and you can use any one of the following methods to clear the cache.

Method 1 : Clearing SocialEngine cache with Development and Production buttons

1) Login to your SocialEngine’s admin panel.

2) At the bottom left of the admin panel click on Development Mode

3) Click on back to network on top of the page to open a page.

4) Go back to admin panel and click on Production Mode

That’s it. Your CSS cache should be cleared now.

If Social Engine breaks when you put the site in development mode, you have a CSS error from one of your plugins. You can found out which plugin is causing the issue by right clicking on the broken page and choosing View Source ( varies in different browsers ). now you need to open your main CSS file by clicking on it. The URL is on top portion of the page and it should look like this :

After opening the URL you should find some clues which plugin is causing the issue.

Method 2 : Flush SocialEngine cache with the built-in Flush functionality

1) Login to your SocialEngine’s admin panel.

2) Navigate to Settings -> Performance & Caching

3) Choose  Flush cache at the bottom of the page.

4) Click on Save Changes

Method 3 : Removing cache via FTP by deleting cache files manually

1) Login to your FTP account with a FTP Application ( ie. FileZilla )

2) Locate the temporary folder in the root.

3) Remove all the content of cache and scaffold folders.

An interesting discussion is definitely worth comment. There’s no doubt that that you should write more on this issue, it may not be a taboo subject but typically people do not talk about such issues. To the next! Kind regards!!

  • i deleted temporary folder, but whole site became blank page, what’s wrong ?

    • You should only delete the CONTENT of temporary/cache/ and temporary/scaffold/ directories, not the entire temporary folder.

To fix the problem you can upload the temporary folder from SocialEngine’s latest package to your site.
